Me And Earl And The Dying Girl: Medium Close-Up

This shot is quite obviously different from the other shots I have looked at so far as it is focusing on two people. The different expressions each of their faces show us how comfortable they are in social situations like a cafeteria. The two main characters are the only two actors that are in focus as the rest are out of focus behind them. They are almost completely still yet everything is moving around them. This emphasises how they stand out compared to the others there and that it is almost as if they just should be there (which is how the main character feel during this scene in the movie).

The Revenant: Medium Close-Up

This shot allows us to see almost all of the injuries this character has sustained throughout the film up until this point. Him sitting there with all of those injuries seems almost unreal. He is also not wearing anything on his body which contrasts with the ice that can be seen through the window on the left of the shot. Altogether this shot shows us how resilient the character is in this movie and remind the viewers of everything they have been through so far in the movie.

Get Out: Medium Close-Up (in depth)

This shot allows us to see the lack of emotion on the actors face, his eyes both starring forward with a blank facial expression. He looks almost as if he is frozen in time. His body is also very relaxed which contrast with the rigid expression on his face shows us that what is happening in this shot is not right, it shouldn’t be happening.

Extreme Wide Shot: Mad Max

This shot obviously shows the viewers the main characters heading towards a sand storm. The use of the extreme wide shot in this film emphasises how big the sandstorm is compared to the characters heading towards it. It also gives the viewers the sense that the characters are trapped due to the fact that in the shot the sand is surrounding them. Not only is it towering in front of them, it fills the sky and closes in on them. This makes the characters feel small and insignificant compared to the storm they are heading into.

Wide Shot: Star Wars: The Force Awakens

This shot emphasises how alone the character is as it is just her and a robot surrounded by an empty desert. The tracks left behind her in the sand and the fact that she is continuously moving forward show the viewer that she has a destination in mind and that she is heading towards a goal. This shows the viewer that, even though the character may be alone in a vast empty desert with just a robot to keep her company, they still have a purpose or a calling. This makes the viewers want to support them.

Wide Shot: The Lord Of The Rings

This wide shot allows us to see the location that the character in the scene is heading towards. The sunlight shining on the right side of the castle shows us that it is during either early in the day or mid day, this could be mistaken due to the fact that clouds are coving most of the sky. The grey clouds and the dead grass that surround the castle gives the scene a depressing atmosphere.

Wide Shot: Prisoners

The lights that illuminate the background allows us to see the actor even though this scene is set at night. The headlights have been left on which also helps this. The actors focus, which is the RV, is the largest thing in the shot which instantly draws the viewer to it. The lights from the other police cars allow us to see the RV clearly and the sign that can be seen on the left of the shot balances out the shot meaning the frame isn’t too full on the left compared to the right.
