Establishing shot: Breaking Bad

This shot starts of by showing us a fairly quiet desert like area which has a very peaceful tone to start of. That peace is then broken by a speeding camper van. This instantly shows us the chaos happening in this scene and foreshadows the the series as a whole from peace to chaos, from chemistry teacher to drug lord. The camper van can also show us the importance of family throughout the series as at first it is Walter’s, the main character, reason for getting into the meth business.

Establishing shot: Baby Driver

This shot starts of by showing us a building which is generally normal. multiple cars then drive past the building also looking generally normal and boring. Then as we move closer to the end of the shot a red car with black wheels rolls into view filling the whole screen. The bright red colour of the car instantly makes us think that’s it’s a sports car as well as the fact that it looks more interesting than the other cars in the shot. The car also fills the screen which could be seen as foreshadowing of the fact that cars are probably the most important things in the film (Baby Driver).

An Establishing Shot

An establishing shot does pretty much exactly what it says on the tin, it establishes a scene. It allows the people watching to see the relationship between the subject and the location in that scene. An establishing shot can be used to show a new location but as well as that it can be used to show the tone of that scene and quite possibly the rest of the film.
